College story by Sulagna Sarkar, law student from South Calcutta Law College
Aristotle said “Education is the best provision for life’s journey”, and to insert such provision in the journey one should get a good educational institution as well.
I am 3rd year student from a renowned law college of Bengal, South Calcutta Law College. My college got it’s affiliation under University of Calcutta and it comes under top 5 law colleges under university of Calcutta. It runs both BA LLB and LLM course.
Before appearing in the entrance for BA LLB, I was in so much stress about the college where I am going to be in. But after getting admission my stress faded away soon.
It is located in Ballygunje, the heart of Kolkata and it completed its 50 years of legacy in August 2020. It is five stored building with two different common rooms for girls and boys respectively, one moot court room, one seminar Hall, one large sized library which possess books on different topics along with law and rest of the space is occupied by classroom and faculty rooms.
Now coming to my personal experience and opinion about my Institution.
We are having morning classes in our college. So it was approximately
6:20 AM when I stepped into my college 3 years back. I was tensed enough but soon got some mates and my anxiety reduced a little bit.
We had an orientation program that day; our the then principle Late Debashis Chatterjee along with some other faculties and students from College Welfare society clarified the rules and regulations of the college.
We have a college welfare society and cultural society acting so heedlessly. The seniors from the Welfare society helped throughout the first month of the college to get accustomed with the regulations of college. They also organize programs like BLOOD DONATION CAMP, HELPING NEEDIES once or twice in a year. The Cultural society organized a vibrant fresher’s party for us which made us more excited about college life.
The seniors are also friendly and helpful enough.
The faculty are also very friendly and maintain quite good relationship with us. We always feel free to ask them to clarify any queries regarding any issues of the college.
The best part of the college life held last year when my batchmates including me started a new MOOT COURT SOCIETY. Previously we didn’t have any society or team system for mooting. So in 2019, with the co operation of few of our seniors and faculty members we started with it. We had to pass a screening test for that. It enhanced our mooting skill.
The way our mentor guide us regarding mooting and researching is definitely increasing our knowledge on mooting technique.
In 2019, our college team became the winner of moot court in ANWESHAN NATIONAL LAW FEST, organized by Jyotirmoyee School of Law. Our mates also achieved the tag of semi finalist in the moot court competition in Guru Nanak Institute of Law.
Other than these students from different academic year are winning debate competition, quiz competition and flying high towards their dream.
In Bengal, the success rate of Judiciary exam from our college is mention worthy.
Recently in 2018, a senior named Bristi Basak ranked 3rd in West Bengal Judiciary examination. Also few more students selected for the same in that year itself. The most amazing fact is that many of our faculties are our Ex students which makes the college more proud.
I am personally so pleased and feel blessed to be a part of such an Institution and want to make a mark about my college wherever I shall flourish.
